Meet Melissa

Welcome. Years ago, I decided to pursue a degree in Mental Health Counseling to integrate my love of academics and desire to support people through some of life’s most vulnerable and meaningful seasons. I work with adults of all backgrounds, with a specialty in supporting people living with chronic illness.

My therapeutic style is relational. It is grounded in safety, trust, authenticity, and collaboration. I aim to create a space where all parts of you feel welcome and cared for; a space where you are invited into greater emotional insight, self-understanding, and healing in both mind and body. I use a variety of techniques to process physical and emotional pain and trauma—with a goal of you building a life that is fulfilling. This may include body-centered (somatic) approaches, exploring thoughts and beliefs that hinder change, and “trying on” new ways of relating during therapy sessions.

I work with a range of concerns, with a particular expertise and passion for supporting people living with chronic illness. This interest stems from my own experience of managing rare disease since birth. I understand the complexities of illness, from navigating healthcare systems to living in an unpredictable body and adapting to limitations—and I value the restoration that comes from being met with genuine empathy by someone who has walked a similar path.

People I work with describe me as attuned, open-minded, intentional, artistic, and committed to clinical excellence. I have an ability to gently and playfully reframe and guide growth. This is some of what you can expect when working with me. Outside of therapy, you will find me quilting, napping with my dog, or listening to live music.
